Meet Tony Gasaway, Esq.

Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Tony graduated magna cum laude from St. Louis University in 1983, where he received the prestigious Financial Executive Institute Award given to the top graduating finance/accounting student. After graduation, Tony attended St. Louis University School of Law and clerked for the IRS Office of Chief Counsel. Upon graduation, he embarked on a career in the Office of Chief Counsel, where he also served dually as a Special Assistant United States Attorney. As a government attorney, Tony worked primarily in the IRS large case litigation program where he litigated both domestic and international cases.

After 9 years of government service, Tony joined the private practice of law, initially working for the international law firm Bryan Cave LLP. He eventually started his own tax defense and litigation firm, handling a wide variety of cases, including audit support and litigation defense for several Fortune 100 companies. Tony has litigated before the United States Supreme Court, the Court of Federal Claims, the United States Tax Court, and several United States Federal District Courts and Courts of Appeals.

Tony has participated in national industry groups, notably the Tax Committee of the National Business Aviation Association to effect changes to aviation taxation in Congress; as a member of the IRS/NBAA Joint Federal Excise Tax Working Group, authored "Aircraft Management Fees Susceptibility to Federal Excise Tax to be Decided by Congress or the Courts" NATA Aviation Business Journal (2017). He often was chosen as a speaker, cadre participant and instructor by the IRS Office of Chief Counsel.

In 2005, Tony and his wife founded Stillwater Foundation in Durango, Colorado. A nonprofit that was recently named the 2025 Durango Nonprofit of the year, provides arts and music education to over 1,500 students and employs more than 30 full and part time instructors. It provides private and private education that includes programs for the economically and mentally disadvantaged. Tony also volunteers at the Oklahoma City Zoo, the Homeless Alliance where he works on fundraising and legislation projects, and volunteers as special projects attorney for the Winds House for HIV and AIDs outreach, and was instrumental in securing funding for a similar project for Variety Care.
